MELAKA, 2 October 2016 – The Program Skuasy IPT 1Malaysia (1Malaysia IPT Squash Programme) Circuit 2016 which showcased a total of 305 students from 41 universities and polytechnics completed its third leg today.

The four-day event which ran from 29 September to 2 October 2016 at the Hang Jebat Squash Complex, Melaka, witnessed exciting performances by the senior players as well as the emergence of new faces.

The winners were Bryan Lim Tze Kang (Division 1 Men), Agil Raj Mahalingam (Division 2 Men), Bryan Tan (Division 3 Men), Amirul Edzrain Abdul Hamid (Division 4 Men), Aika Bt Azman (Division 1 Women), Nur Athirah Binti Muhammad Anis (Division 2 Women) and Tan Phooi Yee (Division 3 Women).

Program Skuasy IPT 1Malaysia which was initiated in November 2014 is a collaboration between Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia, Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia and the Ministry of Higher Education.

SRAM President Huang Ying How said that the circuit caters to a wide spectrum of players. “It provides a competitive platform for the transition of the junior players to the senior level as well as a springboard to playing squash professionally.

“At the other end of the spectrum, we also want to encourage students to pick up the game, and enable new players to compete against one another,” he said.

“The circuit also brings together squash players from all over the country,” he added.

Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Ung Su Ling said she was pleased to see that the number of participants had increased by over 20% compared to the circuit’s second leg in Kuantan in May this year.

“This increase was mainly seen in beginners categories namely Division 3 for women and Division 4 for men.” she said.

“We believe that the success of Team Malaysia in the recent World University Squash Championship, where Malaysia emerged with two Golds, a Silver and a Bronze, has increased interest in squash significantly among university students,” she concluded.

The players also took part in a full-day “Leadership Development Workshop” on 28 September 2016.

This year’s Program Skuasy IPT 1Malaysia will culminate with the Grand Finals which will be held on 25-27 November at University of Malaya.
